What I Want to Do in 2023

I’m not the type of person who makes lists, or todo’s, as a matter of fact, I only started collecting my thoughts some time last year using the personal knowledge management tool called Logseq. That being said, that does not mean that I don’t have objectives, or goals I (want to) reach. I just hardly document them. Even when I reach them.

This year, I want to give it a shot, and try to put my thoughts on “paper”. For my sanity, I will stick to three (3) major goals, to start with, and take it from there.

— 1/ Be more Consistent in Writing to my Blog:

Last year (2022) I started blogging and set for myself to be consistent at it. I have written (and will continue to) about many different topics, such as IBM, Cloud, Open Source, Security, … on top of my Weekly Shared Links. That being said, I want to be (even) more consistent this year, and try to publish more. Not only on labs/technical experiments but also on my thoughts and reflections on above topics.

— 2/ Inventions and Innovation:

During the second half of 2021 I’ve had the chance to be part of a (n IBM) group of extremely knowledgable individuals where we brainstormed on how can we improve security solutioning of cloud computing systems. Ultimately, I was awarded a First Patent Application Invention Achievement Award. My first invention at IBM.

Needless to say that this was a wonderful experience which I plan on repeating throughout 2023, and beyond.

— 3/ Contribute (again) to Open Source projects:

You may or may not know but a decade or two ago I was an avid contributor to the Open Source community, mainly around OpenBSD. I’ve always been a FOSS advocate and enthusiast, and I believe that today more than ever, this community is bringing, and will continue to bring, a lot of innovation and value to the entire ecosystem in which we live in today.

Bottom line, I want to get (and give) back to my roots.

…… Yeah, I said 3, but still wanted to add this bonus one ;-)

— 4/ Creating a Cloud Security Solutioning Podcast:

There are many good podcasts out there, on cloud, on security, on cloud security… But I can hardly find anything on cloud security solutioning. Topics that could be explored: how do you solution security for cloud Vs. trad IT / on-prem; how automation can help in the process; some war stories, and many more.

This idea has been on my mind for some time now. Let me know how does that sound to you. Mmhkay? ;-)

Thank you all for your support, ideas, thoughts, and feedback. Do not hesitate to reach out (in the comments below or on Mastodon) if you relate to any of the above, and want to join my journey for 2023 (and beyond). -X.
